Lily Arminda wants to make you Swoon.
Lily Arminda puts emotion on the pedestal on her debut album, Swoon. There’s a can’t look away quality to this body of work that grips you, whether it be through her flair for the romantic, fascination with the dramatic, or the heat of the moment instinct that drives each song. She knows exactly how to be at once, in and out of control, as a catchy spectacle.
Produced by indie duo TOLEDO (Sophie Cates, Vern Matz, Bloomsday), this dream team first took Arminda into pop stardom with “When You’re Lonely” off her EP DTR, released in 2021 on Urban Scandal Records (Renny Conti, Curls, The Band Ice Cream). “When You’re Lonely” earned the attention of multiple Spotify editorial playlists including Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds Indie, & Text Me Back, before gaining major traction with Softly, where it stayed for a year amassing tens of thousands of streams. Over the years, Arminda has had the honor of opening for artists like Lucy Dacus, The National Parks, and Benjamin Francis Leftwich, and playing Bunbury Music Festival with headliners Post Malone, The Chainsmokers, and Blink-182.
She performed many of these songs for the first time at her beloved year-long house show series that took place in her Bushwick apartment alongside friends like Charlie Kilgore (MICHELLE), Hudson Freeman, & Vern Matz. These days, Arminda hosts shows with her band at New York venues like Baby’s All Right, Nublu, and Rubulad. Each set feels like a glamorous meltdown and celebration of romance.
Her belief in her stardom is contagious and runs deep. Maybe that’s why it’s so surprising to hear her begging for attention on album tracks like “Look at Me” or maybe that’s what makes it so endearing. She knows her power and doesn’t simultaneously. Arminda soars in her vulnerability, a skill that she fosters in all creative endeavors, including in her new creative practice as an actress. Public solitude, or being private in public, is the core to true expression; which is what she finds through this album.
Swoon is for the romantics, the ones who light up a room, are the life of the party, and all who are aspiring to be.
